Major Progress in Agricultural Science in China in 2023 Released

On December 6th, the 2023 China Agriculture and Rural Science and Technology Development Forum and China Modern Agriculture Development Forum were held in Nanjing. Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Mei Xurong, released the report on "Major Advances in China's Agricultural Science in 2023".

 

The selected major advances in Chinese agricultural science in 2023 include the discovery of key genes for synergistic regulation of high yield and early maturity in rice; Revealing the genetic basis of convergent selection between maize and rice; Constructing the first tomato map pan genome; Discovering susceptible genes in wheat that assist in stripe rust infection; Revealing for the first time the structural basis of chitin directed biosynthesis; Revealing the mechanism by which pig blood type genes affect the composition of gut microbiota; Revealing the viral characteristics of wild animals in China; Revealing the important role of soil quality in crop adaptation to climate change; Building an efficient cell factory for synthesizing steviol glycosides; Reveal the trade-off relationship between different forest restoration methods.

 

This report was developed by the Science and Technology Management Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Science and Technology Intelligence Analysis and Evaluation Innovation Team of the Institute of Agricultural Information. It is based on high-level scientific research papers in the agricultural field officially published by various scientific research institutions in China in 2022 in Web of Science. According to the selection principle of "leading the forefront, creating excellence, and making significant breakthroughs", it undergoes preliminary selection, expert evaluation, comprehensive selection, and public disclosure, Select 10 basic scientific research achievements that can represent the cutting-edge research level of China's agricultural science and technology in 2022 and achieve significant breakthroughs.
